Hydrozykloneja

Hydrozykloneja is a field of study and application focused on hydrocyclone-based separation in liquid suspensions.

A hydrozyklone operates by injecting feed tangentially into a conical chamber, generating a high-velocity swirling flow. Denser solids migrate toward the outer wall under centrifugal forces and exit with the underflow, while lighter solids and clarified liquid are carried upward to the overflow. The efficiency and selectivity depend on geometry (cone angle, apex size, vortex finder length) and operating conditions (feed pressure, solids concentration, particle size distribution, liquid viscosity).

Key performance indicators include cut size (d50), recovery, overall separation efficiency, and throughput. Designers use empirical correlations, population balance models, and computational fluid dynamics to predict performance and guide scale-up.

Applications cover mineral processing (ore classification and desliming), coal cleaning, metal and mineral concentration, wastewater treatment, and recycling streams. Benefits include relatively compact equipment and low energy demand compared with some alternatives, though wear, erosion, clogging, and fines losses remain considerations.
