Hyönteismyrsky, a Finnish term, translates to "insect storm" and refers to a dramatic and visually striking phenomenon involving a massive concentration of flying insects. These swarms can appear suddenly and reach immense densities, sometimes obscuring the sky or causing temporary difficulties for visibility. While the term "myrsky" (storm) implies a destructive force, hyönteismyrsky primarily describes the sheer scale and density of the insect aggregation, rather than an inherent danger associated with it.

These events are often driven by specific ecological conditions. Favorable weather, such as warm and humid air, can trigger rapid insect reproduction and emergence.
