Hvissåregler

Hvissåregler, ofte kalt if-then regler, are a simple form of knowledge representation used in AI, rule-based systems, and decision support. Each rule expresses a conditional statement: if a certain condition is met, then a specific conclusion is drawn or an action is taken. A rule base contains many such rules and is managed by a rule engine that applies them to available data.

A rule consists of two parts: the antecedent (the condition) and the consequent (the action or conclusion). For example: if the temperature exceeds 100 degrees Celsius and the pressure is within safe limits, then trigger cooling and log the event. Rules can be combined, prioritized, or grouped into modules to form a coherent decision system.

Inference in hvissåregler can follow different patterns. Forward chaining starts from known facts and applies rules to derive new facts until a goal is reached. Backward chaining begins with a goal and looks for rules that support it. Rule engines may use optimizations such as the Rete algorithm to efficiently match conditions against large rule bases.
