Hushe

Hushe is a village located in the Ghangche District of Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. It lies along the Hushe River, a tributary of the Shyok River, and is situated at an altitude of approximately 3,050 meters (10,010 feet) above sea level. The village is a gateway to several prominent peaks in the Karakoram mountain range.

Historically, Hushe has been an important settlement for the Balti people, who primarily engage in agriculture and herding. The village is known for its stunning natural beauty, characterized by rugged mountains, glaciers, and fertile valleys. It serves as a base for trekkers and mountaineers aiming to ascend peaks like Masherbrum, K6, and K7.

The community in Hushe is predominantly Muslim, with a rich cultural heritage influenced by Tibetan and Central Asian traditions. The local dialect is Balti. The area experiences a cold alpine climate, with long, harsh winters and short, pleasant summers. Development initiatives in recent years have focused on improving infrastructure, tourism, and access to education and healthcare for the residents. The journey to Hushe typically involves a jeepable track from Skardu, the main town in Gilgit-Baltistan.
