Humektantowe, often translated as "humectants," are ingredients commonly found in skincare and cosmetic products. Their primary function is to attract and retain moisture. This property makes them valuable for hydrating the skin and preventing dryness. Humectants work by drawing water molecules from the environment or from deeper layers of the skin to the outermost layer, the epidermis. This helps to keep the skin supple, smooth, and moisturized.

Several common substances act as humectants. Glycerin is one of the most widely used and effective humectants, known for its ability to bind water. Hyaluronic acid is another popular ingredient, capable of holding a significant amount of water. Other examples include urea, sorbitol, and panthenol (Vitamin B5). These ingredients are beneficial for all skin types, but are particularly helpful for individuals with dry, dehydrated, or mature skin. By maintaining adequate hydration levels, humectants can also improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. They are often included in moisturizers, serums, toners, and masks to enhance their hydrating capabilities and contribute to overall skin health.
