Hostoperatsioonisüsteemita refers to a computing environment where a primary operating system, typically considered the "host," is absent or not directly installed. Instead, the hardware is managed and controlled by a hypervisor, which then creates and manages virtual machines. These virtual machines can run their own operating systems, often referred to as "guest" operating systems. This setup is fundamental to virtualization technology.

In a traditional computing model, the operating system is the core software that manages hardware resources and provides a platform for applications. When a host operating system is absent in the context of virtualization, the hypervisor takes on these responsibilities. The hypervisor directly interacts with the physical hardware, allocating resources like CPU, memory, and storage to the various virtual machines it hosts.
