Hoseklemme

Hoseklemme, or hose clamp, is a device used to secure a hose onto a fitting such as a barb or ferrule, creating a tight seal to prevent leaks and keep the hose in place. They are employed in automotive, plumbing, industrial machinery, and consumer appliances, where hoses carry fluids or air under pressure or vibration.

Several designs are in common use. Worm-drive clamps use a metal band with a perforated edge and a screw that tightens the band when turned, providing adjustable clamping force. Spring clamps are made from spring steel and use the tension of their own shape to maintain even pressure, which helps accommodate thermal expansion and contraction. Ear clamps (often called Oetiker clamps) are formed by crimping a raised ear onto a band and are typically single-use. Clic or snap clamps are designed for quick installation and removal without tools.

Materials vary by application. Stainless steel is common for corrosion resistance, with types such as 304 and 316 stainless steel. Galvanized steel, aluminum, and plastic variants are also used in less demanding environments or where weight is a concern. Clamps come in a range of sizes and are usually described by their inner diameter, with common ranges spanning from a few millimeters to several dozen millimeters for small automotive and household hoses, and larger sizes for industrial applications.

Installation and maintenance are straightforward but require care. Choose the appropriate type for the hose and environment, avoid over-tightening to prevent hose damage, and ensure a uniform seal around the circumference. Inspect regularly for corrosion, wear, or loss of tension, and replace damaged clamps promptly to maintain system integrity.
