It is not a confirmed molecule in mainstream peer-reviewed biology, and its existence is treated as a theoretical or illustrative construct rather than established fact.

In hypothetical models, Hormuzin is imagined as a short peptide, potentially produced by a discrete endocrine tissue referred to as a Hormuzinal gland. In these models, it would be released in response to internal cues such as nutritional status or stress and transported via the bloodstream to distant target tissues. A notional receptor, sometimes called the Hormuzin receptor (HR), is proposed to reside on cell membranes and to couple to intracellular signaling pathways.

Proposed mechanisms of action in these scenarios typically involve classical peptide hormone signaling, including activation of G protein-coupled receptors or receptor tyrosine kinases, leading to second messenger cascades such as cyclic AMP or phospholipase C pathways. The downstream effects are described as integrating with metabolic and cardiovascular regulation, with influences on glucose homeostasis, lipid metabolism, appetite, or vascular tone. However, no consistent molecular identity, gene, or receptor for Hormuzin has been demonstrated in experimental biology.
