Hordalékteraszokat

Hordalékteraszokat, also known as alluvial terraces or river terraces, are landforms created by the erosional and depositional activity of rivers. They are typically flat, step-like surfaces that are elevated above the present-day river channel. These terraces represent former floodplains of the river, which have been abandoned due to a variety of geomorphological processes.

The formation of hordalékteraszokat is primarily driven by changes in the river's base level or its erosional capacity. A fall in the base level, such as through tectonic uplift or a drop in sea level, can cause the river to incisor into its existing floodplain, leaving behind the higher, older floodplain as a terrace. Conversely, an increase in the river's sediment load or a decrease in its discharge can lead to deposition and the building up of a new floodplain at a lower elevation, again leaving the older floodplain as a terrace. Climate change can also play a role by influencing river discharge and sediment supply.

Hordalékteraszokat are commonly found along major rivers and are often arranged in a series, with higher terraces representing older surfaces and lower terraces representing younger surfaces. They are composed of unconsolidated sediments, such as sand, gravel, and silt, which were deposited by the river during periods of higher flow. These terraces can provide valuable insights into the past environmental conditions and river dynamics of a region, and are often important agricultural areas due to their fertile soils. In some cases, they may also contain archaeological evidence of past human settlements.
