Michael F. Holick is a prominent American physician-scientist known for his extensive research on vitamin D, its synthesis in the skin, and its critical role in human health. Born on October 10, 1945, in Brooklyn, New York, Holick earned his medical degree from the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center in 1968. He completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of Wisconsin–Madison and later specialized in endocrinology and metabolism at the University of Chicago.
