Hofteutvidelse

Hofteutvidelse refers to a surgical procedure aimed at widening the pelvic bone, specifically the ilium, which is part of the hip bone. This is typically performed to address conditions where the pelvic ring is too narrow, impacting hip joint function or causing pain. The most common indication for a pelvic osteotomy, which is the surgical term for bone cutting, is hip dysplasia, a condition where the socket of the hip joint doesn't fully cover the ball of the femur. In cases of severe dysplasia, the acetabulum (the hip socket) may be too shallow, leading to instability and early onset arthritis.

The procedure often involves cutting the ilium above the hip joint and then repositioning the outer fragment to increase the coverage of the femoral head by the acetabulum. This can be achieved through various techniques, such as a Pemberton osteotomy or a shelf acetabuloplasty. Recovery time varies depending on the extent of the surgery and the individual patient's healing process, but generally involves a period of restricted weight-bearing followed by physical therapy to regain strength and mobility.
