Hochfrequenztransformatoren

Hochfrequenztransformatoren are a specific type of transformer designed to operate efficiently at high frequencies, typically in the kilohertz (kHz) to gigahertz (GHz) range. Unlike conventional transformers that are optimized for mains frequencies (50/60 Hz), Hochfrequenztransformatoren utilize materials and construction techniques that minimize losses at these elevated frequencies.

Key to their performance are low-loss magnetic core materials, such as ferrites or powdered iron, which exhibit significantly reduced hysteresis and eddy current losses at high frequencies compared to laminated iron cores. The windings are also designed to mitigate skin effect and proximity effect, phenomena where current tends to flow on the surface of conductors and between adjacent conductors, respectively, increasing resistance at high frequencies. This is often achieved using Litz wire, a conductor composed of many thin insulated strands woven together.

They are crucial components in switch-mode power supplies (SMPS), which are ubiquitous in computers, chargers, and many other electronic devices, enabling efficient voltage conversion.
