Hmérsékletmérésben refers to the field of temperature measurement in Hungarian. This encompasses the scientific principles, methods, and instruments used to quantify thermal energy. The fundamental concept behind temperature measurement is the relationship between temperature and the physical properties of substances. As temperature changes, properties such as volume, electrical resistance, pressure, and radiation intensity can vary predictably. Thermometers are designed to exploit these variations to indicate temperature.

Common types of thermometers include liquid-in-glass thermometers, which rely on the thermal expansion of a liquid like mercury or alcohol. Resistance thermometers, such as platinum resistance thermometers (PRTs), measure the change in electrical resistance of a metal with temperature. Thermocouples generate a voltage proportional to the temperature difference between two dissimilar metals. Infrared thermometers measure the thermal radiation emitted by an object, allowing for non-contact temperature sensing.
