Hitsiliitoksia

Hitsiliitoksia, often translated as "welds" or "welded joints" in English, refers to the process of joining two or more materials, typically metals or thermoplastics, by causing coalescence. This is usually achieved by applying heat, pressure, or both, and sometimes by using a filler material. The goal is to create a permanent bond that is as strong as, or stronger than, the base materials.

The principle behind hitsiliitoksia is the formation of a metallurgical bond. When the base materials are heated to their melting point, or brought into close contact under pressure at elevated temperatures below their melting point, the atoms of the adjacent materials can diffuse and intermingle. Upon cooling, these atoms form a continuous solid structure, effectively merging the separate pieces into a single unit.
