Historiestukken
Historiestukken are a genre of Dutch painting that flourished in the 17th century, particularly during the Dutch Golden Age. The term translates literally to "history pieces" and refers to paintings depicting scenes from history, mythology, biblical narratives, or allegorical subjects. These were considered the highest genre of painting by art theorists of the time, ranking above portraiture, genre scenes, landscapes, and still lifes.
