Hillegersberg

Hillegersberg is a neighborhood in the northern part of Rotterdam, Netherlands. It is known for its affluent residential character and its green spaces, including the popular Hillegersberg Park. The area is situated around the Bergse Plassen, a series of lakes created in the early 20th century from peat extraction. This has given Hillegersberg a distinctive waterside appeal with many homes featuring jetties and moorings.

Historically, Hillegersberg was a separate municipality before being incorporated into Rotterdam in 1941. The name "Hillegersberg" is believed to derive from a prehistoric burial mound, or "terp," named after Saint Hillegonda. The original village center, now known as Oude Kerkplein, still retains some of its historical charm with older buildings.

The neighborhood offers a range of amenities, including shops, restaurants, and schools. Its proximity to the city center, combined with its tranquil atmosphere and recreational opportunities on the water, makes it a desirable place to live.
