Hilfsqubits
Hilfsqubits, or auxiliary qubits, are qubits introduced into a quantum circuit to assist with computation without encoding the primary logical information in them. They are distinct from data qubits, which carry the actual quantum information being processed.
The main roles of Hilfsqubits include measurement and error management, gate mediation, and temporary data storage.
Common implementations appear across many quantum codes and platforms. In surface codes and other stabilizer codes,
Practical considerations include preparation and reset of Hilfsqubits, their own coherence properties, and the overhead associated
Hilfsqubits is the German term for ancilla qubits, a standard concept in quantum information science. They
