For instance, in optical lenses used in cameras or telescopes, high transmittance ensures that the maximum amount of light reaches the sensor or observer, leading to brighter and clearer images. Similarly, in energy-efficient windows, high transmittance allows natural sunlight to illuminate interiors, reducing the need for artificial lighting.

The specific wavelength range over which high transmittance is desired depends on the application.
