Hexylmagnesium

Hexylmagnesium is an organometallic compound with the chemical formula C6H13MgBr. It belongs to the class of Grignard reagents, which are widely used in organic synthesis. Grignard reagents are characterized by a carbon-magnesium bond, making the carbon atom nucleophilic. Hexylmagnesium is typically prepared by reacting 1-bromohexane with magnesium metal in an ethereal solvent, such as diethyl ether or tetrahydrofuran. The reaction is sensitive to moisture and air, requiring anhydrous conditions.
