Hengerba

Hengerba is a town and municipality in the Central Lowlands of Veridia. It sits along the Hens River, about 60 kilometers south of Arcadia, the capital, and serves as the administrative center of the Hengerba district. The municipality covers roughly 16 square kilometers and had about 9,000 residents in 2020.

Etymology: The name Hengerba combines a local term for "bend" with "farmstead," reflecting the river bend and agricultural origins of the settlement.

Geography and climate: The area is flat and fertile, with a temperate climate. Average annual rainfall is around 650–700 mm, with mild summers and cool winters.

History: The settlement developed around a medieval river market and gained municipal rights in the 14th century. The arrival of rail in the 19th century spurred growth, followed by postwar housing expansion.

Governance and demographics: Hengerba is governed by a mayor and a 12-member council elected for four-year terms. The population is predominantly Veridian-speaking, with small minority communities.

Economy: Agriculture remains important, complemented by light manufacturing and services. The town benefits from its rail link and road network, supporting local producers and logistics firms.

Cultural institutions and education: The town operates two primary schools and one secondary school, a small museum, and a cultural center. Local events include an autumn market festival.

Transportation and services: Rail service on the Veridia East line and regular regional buses connect Hengerba to larger towns. Healthcare and administrative services are provided by a municipal hospital annex and council offices.
