Hemiphaenodon

Hemiphaenodon is an extinct genus of mammal that lived during the Eocene epoch in what is now North America. It is known from a limited fossil record, primarily consisting of jaw fragments and teeth. These fossils suggest that Hemiphaenodon was a relatively small animal, likely no larger than a modern-day squirrel. Its teeth indicate a diet of insects and possibly some soft plant matter.

The classification of Hemiphaenodon has been a subject of debate among paleontologists. Initially, it was thought to be related to the early primates or other placental mammals. However, more recent analyses of its dental morphology and jaw structure have led to its placement within the order Pantolesta.
