Helleborines

Helleborines are a genus of flowering plants in the family Ranunculaceae, native to Europe, Asia, and North Africa. They are perennial herbs, typically growing to a height of 10-30 cm, with basal leaves and small, bell-shaped flowers. The genus includes about 15 species, with the most well-known being Helleborus niger, commonly known as the Christmas rose. They are often used in landscaping and as ornamental plants in gardens. The flowers of helleborines are typically white or pink, with six petals and a yellow center. The leaves are usually green and glossy, with a serrated edge. Helleborines are pollinated by insects, particularly bees and butterflies. They are also known to attract birds, which feed on the seeds. The genus name "Helleborus" comes from the Greek words "hellos" meaning "sun" and "boros" meaning "light", referring to the bright flowers of the plants.
