HelenHelena

HelenHelena is the name of a contemporary art duo comprising two artists who began collaborating in the early 2010s. Working across sculpture, video, sound, and performance, the pair produce site-specific installations that examine memory, urban space, and identity. The project originated in Berlin, where Helen and Helena met during an artist residency in 2011 and formed the duo in 2012.

Artistic approach: They create site-responsive installations using repurposed industrial materials, textiles, and digital projections. Their practice often integrates participatory elements, inviting audiences to contribute sounds or objects to the work, producing evolving forms over time.

Selected works include Vestiges of Light (2014), installed in an abandoned power station; Quiet Intersections (2017) for a disused metro station; and The Archive We Carry (2020), exhibited at a city museum.

Exhibitions and reception: HelenHelena has shown at contemporary art spaces and international festivals across Europe and elsewhere. Critics have highlighted their tactile aesthetics and interest in collective memory, noting the collaborative process as central to the work.

In addition to making art, the duo runs education and workshop programs and publishes a quarterly zine documenting process and audience contributions.
