Heksaani

Heksaani is a chemical compound with the formula C6H14. It is a saturated hydrocarbon, meaning it consists solely of carbon and hydrogen atoms joined by single bonds. Heksaani belongs to the alkane family, characterized by the general formula CnH2n+2. As a specific isomer of hexane, heksaani refers to the straight-chain structure of the molecule, where the six carbon atoms are linked in a linear sequence. This linear arrangement differentiates it from other isomers of hexane, such as branched-chain alkanes.

Heksaani is a colorless, volatile liquid at room temperature and pressure. It has a characteristic gasoline-like odor. Like other alkanes, heksaani is nonpolar, making it insoluble in water but soluble in many organic solvents such as ethanol and ether. It is flammable and burns in the presence of oxygen to produce carbon dioxide and water.

Industrially, heksaani is obtained from the fractional distillation of petroleum. It is a component of gasoline and is also used as a solvent in various industrial processes, including the extraction of oils from seeds and as a cleaning agent. Due to its volatility and flammability, careful handling and storage are necessary. Exposure to heksaani vapors can cause dizziness, headache, and nausea.
