Heimdal

Heimdal, commonly spelled Heimdallr in Old Norse, is a name used for a figure in Norse mythology as well as for several modern entities. The name is often associated with vigilance, guardianship, and protective duties.

In Norse mythology, Heimdalr is a watchman of the gods who guards the Bifröst, the rainbow bridge that connects the realms of gods and humans. He is described as having keen senses and as wielding Gjallarhorn, a horn that will herald Ragnarök. In some sources, he is said to be born of the nine mothers who conceived him at different times.

Heimdal Security is a cybersecurity company that offers threat prevention, DNS filtering, and related security services for individuals and organizations.

A small town in North Dakota, United States, is also named Heimdal.
