Hazardlight

Hazardlight, also known as hazard warning lights or emergency flashers, is a safety feature found on most modern vehicles. It consists of a pair of flashing amber or red lights, typically located at the front and rear of the vehicle, that operate independently of the regular turn signals. The primary purpose of hazardlights is to alert other road users to a potential danger or a stopped vehicle, especially in situations where visibility is reduced or traffic conditions are hazardous.

Drivers typically activate hazardlights when they need to stop their vehicle unexpectedly on the roadside, such as in the event of a breakdown or a flat tire. They are also used to signal distress, indicate a slower-than-usual speed, or warn of a potential hazard ahead, like debris on the road or an accident. In some jurisdictions, the use of hazardlights is also mandated during specific weather conditions, such as heavy fog, snow, or torrential rain, to enhance visibility.

The activation of hazardlights is usually done via a distinct button, often marked with a red triangle symbol, located on the dashboard or center console. Pressing this button causes both the left and right turn signals to flash simultaneously. It is important for drivers to use hazardlights judiciously and only when necessary to avoid causing confusion or unnecessary alarm to other motorists. Misuse of hazardlights can detract from their effectiveness as a safety warning.
