Hausaland
Hausaland is a region in West Africa inhabited by the Hausa people. It is primarily located in northern Nigeria and southeastern Niger. The Hausa language, a Chadic language, is spoken across this vast area and serves as a lingua franca for many ethnic groups in the region. Historically, Hausaland was composed of a number of independent city-states, often referred to as the Hausa Bakwai or "true Hausa states." These states, including Daura, Kano, Katsina, Zazzau, Gobir, Rano, and Borno (though Borno is sometimes considered separate), developed complex political and economic systems, engaging in extensive trade networks that stretched across the Sahara Desert.
