Hauptanbaugebiete, literally “main cultivation areas,” is a term used in German viticulture to refer to the principal wine-growing regions of Germany. In German wine law and official statistics, the wine-growing regions are formally designated as Anbaugebiete. The phrase Hauptanbaugebiete is commonly used to describe those regions that account for the bulk of German wine production and are the major focus of viticultural activity.
