Harmonikus

Harmonikus is a term used in Hungarian to denote anything related to harmony or harmonics in music, acoustics, and related disciplines. In music theory, harmonikus describes phenomena tied to the harmonic series, overtones and the functional relations among tones that create chords and tonal centers. The term is used for both the overtone-based perspective on sound (the harmonikus spectrum) and for the study of harmony in composition and analysis.

In acoustics and physics, harmonikus denotes the set of integer multiples of a fundamental frequency, whose amplitudes determine timbre. The harmonic series explains why different instruments sounding the same pitch can have distinct tonal colors.

In Hungarian education, harmonikus appears in textbooks and terminology such as harmonikus sorozat (harmonic series), harmonikus hang (harmonic note) and harmonikus analízis (harmonic analysis) within Fourier methods.

The word derives from the concept of harmony (harmonia) from classical theory, entering many European languages via German and French terms for harmonic. There is no widely recognized proper noun named Harmonikus, though the term can appear as a descriptor in musicology, acoustics, and instrument-making contexts.
