Happianhydridien

Happianhydridien is a hypothetical inorganic compound described in speculative chemistry as a binary hydride of a fictional element called happium. In this context, happium is assigned symbol Hp and is imagined to occupy a position among heavy transition metals in thought experiments. The name combines the element name with the hydrogen-derived suffix -hydridien, following conventions used for hydride species in some languages.

Structure and bonding: Theoretical models propose several stoichiometries, most commonly HpH6 or HpH4, forming three-dimensional lattices where hydrogen atoms occupy interstitial sites within a metal-like framework. Bonding is predicted to be predominantly ionic with substantial covalent character for H–H interactions under pressure.

Synthesis and stability: No experimental synthesis has been reported. In theoretical studies, happianhydridien is predicted to form under extreme pressures, via direct reaction of happium metal with molecular hydrogen or through high-pressure hydride formation pathways using metal hydride precursors.

Properties and potential applications: Predicted to exhibit very high gravimetric and volumetric hydrogen storage capacities and unusual electronic properties under pressure. However, its stability to decomposition at ambient conditions is uncertain, and it may be reactive with oxygen and moisture.
