Hammasülekande

Hammasülekande is an Estonian term referring to gear transmission. It is a mechanical system used to transmit rotational motion and torque between two or more rotating shafts, where the driving shaft is connected to a gear that meshes with one or more driven gears. The teeth on the gears engage with each other, causing the driven gear to rotate at a different speed and torque than the driving gear.

The primary function of a hammasülekande is to change the speed and torque of a rotating component. By using gears of different sizes, the speed can be increased or decreased, and the torque can be magnified or reduced accordingly. This is achieved through the ratio of the number of teeth on the meshing gears. A larger gear driving a smaller gear will result in a higher output speed and lower output torque, while a smaller gear driving a larger gear will result in a lower output speed and higher output torque.

Hammasülekanded are ubiquitous in mechanical engineering and are found in a vast array of applications. Examples include automotive transmissions, where they allow for variable speed and torque control; industrial machinery, such as conveyors and pumps; clocks and watches, for precise timekeeping; and power tools, to achieve different operational speeds. The design and complexity of hammasülekanded can vary greatly, from simple single-stage gear pairs to intricate multi-stage gearboxes. Materials used for gears typically include steel, cast iron, and various plastics, chosen based on factors like strength, durability, and cost.
