Hameroffs is a term that can refer to several things, most notably to the work and theories of physicist Roger Penrose and anesthesiologist Stuart Hameroff. Their primary contribution is the Orch OR theory, which proposes a biological mechanism for consciousness.

The Orch OR theory suggests that consciousness arises from quantum computations occurring within microtubules, which are protein structures found within neurons. According to this theory, these quantum computations are orchestrated by biological processes and can lead to non-computable states of awareness. Penrose and Hameroff argue that this quantum mechanical basis is necessary to explain certain aspects of consciousness that they believe cannot be accounted for by classical computation alone.
