Halvmetalliska

Halvmetalliska, also known as semimetals or metalloids, are elements that exhibit properties of both metals and non-metals. The term "halvmetalliska" is derived from Swedish, where "halv" means "half" and "metalliska" refers to metallic properties. The most well-known halvmetalliska elements include silicon (Si), germanium (Ge), arsenic (As), antimony (Sb), tellurium (Te), and polonium (Po). Silicon, for example, is a critical component in modern electronics and is often referred to as a semiconductor. Germanium is also used in electronics and optics. Arsenic and antimony are less commonly used but have specific applications in certain industries. Tellurium and polonium are less stable and are less commonly encountered in everyday applications.

Halvmetalliska elements often have a metallic luster but are brittle and have lower electrical conductivity compared to typical metals.
