Halogenidjons are negatively charged ions formed from halogen elements. Halogens belong to Group 17 of the periodic table and include fluorine, chlorine, bromine, iodine, and astatine. These elements have seven valence electrons, meaning they need just one more electron to achieve a stable electron configuration like that of a noble gas. When a halogen atom gains an electron, it becomes a halide ion.
