Hakemuseum

The Hakemuseum, officially known as the Museum of Islamic Art (Arabic: متحف الفن الإسلامي), is a prominent cultural institution located in Doha, Qatar. Opened in 2008, it is part of the Museum of Islamic Art complex, which also includes the Museum of Islamic Art Library and the Museum of Islamic Art Research Center. The museum is housed in a striking architectural structure designed by the Italian architect Renzo Piano, featuring a series of white, sail-like wings that evoke the traditional Islamic geometric patterns.

The Hakemuseum’s collection focuses on Islamic art and culture, spanning over 1,400 years of history from the 7th century to the present day. The exhibits include a diverse range of artifacts such as ceramics, textiles, metalwork, glassware, and manuscripts, many of which originate from regions across the Islamic world, including Persia, Egypt, Syria, and Spain. One of the museum’s most celebrated pieces is the *Dervish Robe*, a 14th-century Sufi garment woven with gold thread, which is considered a masterpiece of Islamic textile art.

In addition to its permanent collection, the museum hosts rotating exhibitions that explore various themes in Islamic art and history. The Hakemuseum also engages in educational and research initiatives, offering programs for visitors of all ages, including guided tours, workshops, and lectures. Its library and research center serve scholars and researchers studying Islamic art and culture, providing access to rare books, manuscripts, and scholarly resources.
