Doha

Doha is the capital and largest city of the State of Qatar, located on the eastern coast along the Persian Gulf. It serves as the country’s political, economic, and cultural center and hosts government ministries, embassies, and major institutions.

From a small coastal settlement, Doha grew rapidly in the late 20th century as oil and natural gas revenues funded major development. The city’s skyline has transformed with high-rise offices, hotels, and large infrastructure projects, making it a regional hub for business and media.

Important districts include West Bay, with modern towers, and the historic Souq Waqif. The Corniche winds along the waterfront, and cultural venues such as the Museum of Islamic Art, Katara Cultural Village, and the National Museum of Qatar anchor the city’s arts scene. The Pearl-Qatar is an artificial island district.

Doha hosts the headquarters of major energy companies and the Education City campus cluster. Hamad International Airport is a major international hub, and the Doha Metro provides urban transit. The city hosted the 2022 FIFA World Cup and continues to develop as a center for tourism and events.

Doha has a hot desert climate with very hot summers and mild winters; rainfall is infrequent. The population includes a large expatriate community, and the metropolitan area is growing rapidly as Qatar expands its urban and cultural capacities.
