Hajaisäteilymateriaalit

Hajaisäteilymateriaalit, also known as scatter radiation materials, are substances designed to reduce or control the spread of radiation. In medical imaging, particularly in X-ray and CT scans, a significant amount of scattered radiation is produced when the primary X-ray beam interacts with the patient's body. This scattered radiation can degrade image quality by reducing contrast and obscuring important details. Hajaisäteilymateriaalit are employed to absorb or redirect this unwanted radiation.

These materials are often incorporated into the imaging equipment itself, such as in grids placed between the patient and the image detector. These grids consist of alternating strips of radiopaque material (which absorbs X-rays) and radiolucent material (which allows X-rays to pass through). The radiopaque strips are angled to allow primary X-rays to reach the detector while absorbing scattered X-rays that are traveling at different angles.

Beyond grids, specialized materials can also be used in collimators, which shape the X-ray beam. By absorbing stray radiation at the edges of the beam, collimators help to define the area of interest and minimize unnecessary exposure and scatter.
