Haitian origin typically refers to people, culture, or things associated with the Caribbean nation of Haiti. The word Haiti comes from the Taíno term Ayiti, meaning "land of high mountains," reflecting the country's topography. The concept encompasses the ethnically blended heritage that forms the Haitian population today and the cultural traditions that have spread with the Haitian diaspora.

Historically, the territory's indigenous Taíno population was displaced after colonization began in the 15th century. From the 17th century, enslaved Africans were transported by the French to work on plantations, producing a creolized society that fused African, European, and Taíno influences. In 1804, Haiti declared independence, following a successful slave revolt led by leaders such as Toussaint Louverture and Jean-Jacques Dessalines, and became the first independent Black republic.

The main languages are Haitian Creole and French; Haitian Creole emerged from contact between enslaved Africans and French-speaking colonists and is spoken by the vast majority of Haitians. Haitian culture features distinctive music, cuisine, religion—encompassing Catholicism and Vodou—and a vibrant artistic tradition.

Today, Haitian origin also describes people of Haitian descent living in the Haitian diaspora, primarily in the United States, Canada, and the Caribbean, who maintain cultural practices and continue to contribute to multiple societies while preserving ties to Haiti.
