HainautCambrésis

HainautCambrésis is a former French commune. It was located in the Nord department in northern France. The commune was created in 1974 by the merger of three smaller communes: Aulnoye-Aymeries, Berlaimont, and Leval-Aymeries. This administrative fusion was intended to create a larger, more economically viable entity.

The area's history is closely tied to industrial development, particularly coal mining and metallurgy, which were significant in the region for many decades. Like many former industrial areas in northern France, HainautCambrésis faced economic challenges as these traditional industries declined.

In 2017, HainautCambrésis ceased to exist as an independent commune. It was merged with several other neighboring communes, including Étrœungt, Glageon, Laloux, Pont-sur-Sambre, and Ferrière-la-Grande, to form the new commune of Aulnoye-Aymeries. This broader merger aimed to consolidate resources and streamline local governance in a region undergoing significant demographic and economic changes. The former territory of HainautCambrésis is now part of the larger Aulnoye-Aymeries commune.
