Haiguspuhkuse

Haiguspuhkuse, also known as influenza, is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses. It is characterized by symptoms such as fever, chills, muscle aches, headache, and fatigue. The illness can also cause coughing, sore throat, and runny or stuffy nose. In severe cases, it can lead to complications such as pneumonia, especially in young children, the elderly, and those with chronic health conditions.

Influenza viruses are classified into three types: A, B, and C. Type A viruses are the most common and can cause pandemics, while types B and C are less common but can still cause seasonal outbreaks. The viruses can be transmitted through respiratory droplets when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or talks. They can also be spread by touching contaminated surfaces and then touching the mouth, nose, or eyes.

The best way to prevent influenza is through vaccination. Annual flu shots are recommended for everyone over the age of six months. Other preventive measures include frequent hand washing, avoiding close contact with sick individuals, and covering the mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing.

Treatment for influenza typically involves rest, hydration, and over-the-counter medications to relieve symptoms. Antiviral drugs can be prescribed to shorten the duration and severity of the illness, but they are most effective when taken within the first 48 hours of symptom onset. In severe cases, hospitalization may be necessary to manage complications such as pneumonia.
