HFsammensætning

HFsammensætning refers to the composition of the Danish upper secondary education program known as Højere Forberedelseseksamen (HF). HF is designed as a flexible path to higher education, primarily for adults or learners seeking an alternative to the standard gymnasium tracks. It is offered at gymnasier in combination with adult education centers (VUC).

The program is built from a mix of compulsory core subjects and elective subject packages, called fagpakker. The core typically includes foundational subjects such as Danish, English, and mathematics, and is complemented by subjects in social studies, science, or other areas. The fagpakker allow students to tailor their studies toward general or more specialized aims, for example languages, natural sciences, or humanities. The exact subject composition and available fagpakker are defined by national regulations and the issuing institutions, and may vary by year and by local provision.

HF is traditionally a two-year program, offered in full-time or part-time formats to accommodate adult learners. Teaching is organized into semesters with a combination of classroom lessons, assignments, and examinations. Assessment includes a range of examinations, often both written and oral, in selected subjects, along with internal assessments for certain courses. At the end of the program, students receive the HF-eksamen certificate, which provides access to many higher education programs. However, admission requirements for specific universities or study programs may require certain subjects or additional prerequisites.

Historically, HF was established to provide a flexible alternative to the traditional STX track and to improve access to higher education. The program is administered under Danish educational authorities and implemented at participating schools nationwide.
