HEVCrelated refers to the ecosystem of technologies, standards, and applications centered around High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC), also known as H.265. Developed by the Joint Collaborative Team on Video Coding (JCT-VC), HEVC is a video compression standard designed to succeed the widely used H.264/MPEG-4 AVC. It was finalized in January 2013 and aims to deliver significant improvements in compression efficiency, reducing bitrate requirements by up to 50% compared to its predecessor while maintaining similar video quality.

The standard is governed by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU-T) and the Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG), ensuring broad industry adoption. HEVC supports a wide range of applications, including high-definition (HD) and ultra-high-definition (UHD, or 4K) video streaming, broadcasting, and storage. Its efficiency is particularly beneficial for bandwidth-constrained environments, such as mobile devices and internet streaming services, where lower bitrates are essential for smooth playback.

Key features of HEVC include advanced coding tools like larger block sizes, improved motion compensation, and enhanced entropy coding.
