Hållbarhetsområden refers to the various fields or sectors where sustainability efforts are applied and developed. These areas are interconnected and often overlap, but they represent distinct focuses within the broader concept of sustainability. Common hållbarhetsområden include environmental, social, and economic dimensions.

The environmental hållbarhetsområde encompasses issues such as climate change mitigation and adaptation, biodiversity conservation, resource management, pollution control, and sustainable land use. This area focuses on protecting natural ecosystems and ensuring the long-term availability of natural resources.

The social hållbarhetsområde addresses human well-being, equity, and justice. It includes aspects like human rights, labor conditions, community development, health and safety, education, and cultural preservation. The goal is to create a society where all individuals have the opportunity to thrive and where social inequalities are minimized.

The economic hållbarhetsområde pertains to creating resilient and equitable economic systems that can support long-term prosperity without compromising environmental or social integrity. This involves sustainable business practices, responsible consumption and production, green innovation, circular economy models, and fair trade.

Beyond these core three, other important hållbarhetsområden can be identified, such as governance, which focuses on transparent and accountable decision-making processes, and cultural sustainability, which emphasizes the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage and diversity.
