Hátsókerekes

Hátsókerekes is a Hungarian term referring to rear-wheel drive, a vehicle drivetrain layout where the engine transmits power to the rear wheels only. This configuration is distinct from front-wheel drive, where power goes to the front wheels, and all-wheel drive, where power is distributed to all wheels.

In a rear-wheel drive system, the drive shaft connects the transmission to the differential located on the rear axle. The differential then splits the power to the two rear wheels, allowing them to rotate at different speeds during turns. This layout has historically been common in many types of vehicles, including sports cars, luxury sedans, and trucks.

The advantages of rear-wheel drive often cited include better weight distribution, as the heavier engine is typically located at the front and the driven wheels are at the rear, contributing to a more balanced feel. It can also lead to more precise steering and handling, as the front wheels are solely responsible for steering and are not burdened with providing traction. This can make rear-wheel drive vehicles more engaging to drive for enthusiasts.

However, rear-wheel drive can present challenges in low-traction conditions, such as snow or ice, as the weight distribution can mean less downward force on the driven wheels, potentially leading to wheelspin. Modern electronic stability control and traction control systems help mitigate these issues, but front-wheel or all-wheel drive are often preferred for vehicles primarily operated in adverse weather.
