Gígjökull
Gígjökull is a glacier tongue originating from the larger Mýrdalsjökull ice cap in southern Iceland. It is a notable outlet glacier, meaning it flows from the main ice mass and extends into the surrounding landscape. The glacier is situated near the famous Eyjafjallajökull volcano, and its ice has been significantly impacted by volcanic activity in the past. In 2010, during the Eyjafjallajökull eruption, a subglacial lake formed beneath Gígjökull, leading to a rapid melt and a dramatic surge of ice and meltwater that extended far down the glacial valley. This event caused considerable changes to the glacier's appearance and its path.
The glacial lagoon at the base of Gígjökull, known as Fjallsárlón, is a popular tourist destination, though
