Fjallsárlón

Fjallsárlón is a glacier lagoon located in the southeastern part of Iceland, close to its more famous neighbor, Jökulsárlón. It is situated on the edge of the Vatnajökull ice cap, Europe's largest glacier. The lagoon is fed by the Fjallsjökull glacier, an outlet glacier of Vatnajökull. As the Fjallsjökull glacier recedes, large icebergs calve off into the lagoon, creating a constantly changing landscape of floating ice.

The icebergs in Fjallsárlón vary in size and shape, and their colors range from brilliant white to deep blue and even black, due to volcanic ash trapped within the ice. The lagoon is relatively shallow compared to Jökulsárlón, and the icebergs tend to ground on the lagoon floor. This can give the impression of a more intimate glacial experience.

Visitors to Fjallsárlón can often see seals swimming among the icebergs. Boat tours are available, allowing visitors to get closer to the ice and observe the dynamic glacial environment. The surrounding landscape is rugged and volcanic, characteristic of Iceland's highlands. Fjallsárlón is accessible via a gravel road off the Ring Road, making it a convenient stop for travelers exploring the south coast of Iceland.
