Phase III trials involve larger groups of patients and compare the drug's effectiveness to existing treatments or placebo. The final stage is regulatory approval, where the drug's safety and efficacy data are submitted to regulatory authorities, such as the FDA or EMA, for review. If approved, the drug can be marketed and prescribed for patient use. Throughout the drug development process, collaboration between academia, industry, and regulatory bodies is crucial to ensure the timely and successful translation of scientific discoveries into effective and safe medications.
