Gwangan

Gwangan is a neighborhood (dong) in Suyeong District, Busan, South Korea. Located along the western coast of Busan, it sits on the southern shore of Gwangan Bay and forms part of the city's waterfront area. The district is known for its views of the bay, urban beaches, and proximity to central Busan districts.

The area is dominated by the Gwangan Bridge, also known as Gwangandaegyo or the Diamond Bridge, a major road bridge spanning Gwangan Bay and linking Suyeong and Haeundae districts. Construction began in the late 1990s and the bridge opened in 2003. The structure is notable for its night-time illumination, which creates a prominent cityscape feature along the coastline.

Gwangan Beach, or Gwangalli Beach, is a popular urban beach within Gwangan-dong. It offers a long promenade with cafes and restaurants and provides views of the bridge’s lights across the water. The beachfront hosts events such as the Busan Fireworks Festival and serves as a focal point for residents and visitors.

The neighborhood is a hub for tourism, dining, and nightlife, with hotels and residential towers near the waterfront. It is connected to the rest of Busan by public transportation, including Busan Metro Line 2, with Gwangan Station serving the area, and various bus routes facilitating access to Haeundae and other districts.

The name Gwangan derives from Gwangan-dong, the local neighborhood designation.
