GustColumns
GustColumns are a phenomenon observed in atmospheric science, particularly related to thunderstorms. They represent the downward transport of momentum from higher altitudes to near the surface. When a strong downdraft develops within a thunderstorm, it carries with it air that has higher horizontal wind speeds from the upper levels of the storm. This momentum is then transferred to the air at lower levels, resulting in a surge of gusty winds at the ground.
The process is driven by the intense convective activity within the thunderstorm. Precipitation loading, evaporative cooling,
The impact of GustColumns can be significant. They are a primary cause of strong, sudden wind gusts
