Gurgaon

Gurgaon, officially Gurugram, is a city in the northern Indian state of Haryana. Located southwest of New Delhi and part of the National Capital Region, it has evolved into one of India's leading financial and technology hubs, hosting numerous multinational corporations, information technology and business process outsourcing firms, and a growing service sector. The city is known for rapid urban development, modern office campuses, and extensive retail, hospitality, and residential facilities.

The name Gurugram derives from the legend of Guru Dronacharya, the teacher in the Mahabharata, who is said to have resided in the area. Although the region has ancient roots, it remained largely rural until the late 20th century. Liberalization and proximity to Delhi spurred investment in real estate and IT, driving the emergence of commercial districts such as Cyber City and a boom in high-rise development. In 2016 the government announced a renaming of Gurgaon as Gurugram, though both forms are still widely used.

The economy is dominated by information technology services, software development, e-commerce, finance, and manufacturing, with numerous campuses and corporate parks such as DLF Cyber City and Udyog Vihar. The city also hosts malls, hotels, and entertainment venues and serves as a major logistics and retail hub within the NCR. It is connected by road and rail to Delhi and other NCR cities, and by the Delhi Metro’s Yellow Line to Huda City Centre; a short rapid transit line operated in the past, but is no longer in operation.

Education and planning: Gurgaon hosts several higher-education institutions and research centers and has seen ongoing urban development planning to address housing, infrastructure, and public services as its economy continues to expand.
